Focus and Scope
Because of the highly multidisciplinary nature of the field we consider communication across the traditional scientific, engineering and clinical boundaried to be key to developing the discipline.
We envisage that the journal will provide a common meeting ground for researchers from Academia, Industry and Surgery. The Industrial participation is extremely important as the development of many new products in the Personal Care and Medical Devices industries and its clinical applications is driven and underpinned by medical materials knowledge. Scientifically based clinical case reports from medical practices are also welcome.
Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results as well as case reports in as much detail as possible. Therefore, there is no restrictions on the length of the papers. The full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced.
The journal publishes original research papers, critical review articles, short communications, conference proceedings and case studies are solicited from scientists, engineers and clinicians workng in the field. It covers various fields of biomaterials applications, which are represented partly in journal categories.
Characterization techniques will be considered also. This includes simulation of clinical situations in terms of e.g. biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, mechanics, fatigue and wear.
Peer-Review and Editorial Procedure
Manuscripts sent for publication in our journals are strictly and thoroughly peer-reviewed by experts (this includes research and review articles, spontaneous submissions, and invited papers). The Managing Editor of the journal will perform an initial check of suitability upon receipt of the manuscript. Further the Editor-in-Chief or another academic editor of the journal will look at the manuscript before it is eventually sent for peer-review. The Editorial Office will then organize the peer-reviewing by independent experts and collect at least two review reports per manuscript. We ask our authors for adequate revision (with a second round of peer-review if necessary) before requesting the decision of the academic editor (usually the Editor-in-Chief of the journal or the Guest Editor of a special issue).
Submitted theses for publication in the Thesis Series Edition are not additionally peer-reviewed, since these were already examined by the supervisors and the thesis was accepted by the respective university.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
